We are a broad and friendly church family spanning all ages, with traditional, family and alternative types of service to suit all styles of worship.

Everyone who comes through the doors at St John’s is welcomed as part of the church family. We encourage all to become involved in and contribute to our corporate church life. Friendly chat, Welcome Packs and Welcome Suppers hopefully help newcomers to feel quickly at home. Our Church is typically open during the day for quiet and for prayer. Big Toddle 2010

Monday, 12 July 2010 09:08

On Wednesday 16th June Ma’Mites took part in The Big Toddle, a short sponsored walk in aid of Barnardo’s.  Barnardo’s Early Years team work with disadvantaged and vulnerable under 5’s in local projects throughout the UK.

Our Ma’mites toddlers, having first made their pirate hats, took their carers for a walk around the church grounds and arrived back at the St. John’s Hall for refreshments.  We raised a total of £168 for this worthy cause.  Many thanks to all our parents, carers and toddlers who took part.

Kids Kip for Charity

Saturday, 10 July 2010 08:04

Young people from Adventurers and Youth Club joined 20,000 participants taking part in the Giant Sleepover on Saturday 19th June, giving thousands of parents the night off!  All together over 500 groups snoozed their way through Saturday night, breaking the Guinness World Record for the largest sleepover over 24 hours, while raising money for children’s charities and good causes.  Midnight feasts, gossiping, giggling, and late night whisperings were all the order of the day (and night) with events taking place in the UK and abroad.

The Giant Sleepover has grown from just one school’s commitment in 2003 to a well established annual event and now a Guinness World Record this year. Outside the UK sleepovers took place in Australia, Bermuda, Brunai, Germany, New Zealand and the Falkland Islands.

Alongside the world record, the Giant Sleepover raises money for charity.  This year Youth Club and Adventurers voted to support three charities:  York Road Project - supporting homeless people in Woking and one of St John’s “Focus onFive” charities; Rainbow Trust – providing emotional and practical support to families who have a child with a life threatening or terminal illness; and CLICSargent – caring for children and young people with cancer and their families.  Our sleepover raised over £250 which is being shared equally between the three charities - well done to all who took part.
