Children and Families
Nurturing children to know, grow, and show God’s love!
We are passionate to see children reach their God given potential and all we do is driven by our desire to see them grow in their knowledge and love of God. Their safety and well being is of vital importance that is why all our leaders have been DBS checked and safely recruited in accordance with Diocesan Guidelines. The Diocesan guidelines for Child:Adult ratios are also strictly adhered to.
Junior Church runs every Sunday, through term time, during the 10:45 a.m. service. We start in church, with the rest of the church family, for some songs and prayers and then leave for age appropriate fun, craft and teaching in the Hall and Link Building! Just follow the children as they leave and one of the team will be on hand to point you in the right direction from there!
Parents are very welcome to stay with their children until they are completely settled and can stay for the whole or part of any session if they wish. Should the need arise, parents will always be fetched from church. Children are collected from their groups after the church service has finished.
Our crèche is for all those infants and toddlers under the age of 3 and is run in the Olive Room which is equipped with a live AV feed from the church enabling adults to still participate in the service. It is relaxed and informal and the littlies can join-in, play, eat, scream or sleep!
We run a fully staffed crèche on the second and fourth Sundays of the month where parents are welcome (if they wish to) to leave their children and return to church for the remainder of the service.
On the first, third and fifth Sundays we offer a DIY crèche where parents are asked to stay with their children.
Toddler Praise is a fun, lively and informal time for pre-school children and their parents/carers. We gather together for a time of singing, to share a simple Bible story and enjoy a craft activity. There is then time for the children to play, have a drink and snack whilst the rest of us chat over coffee/tea and refreshments.
We meet twice a month on a Friday morning during term time from 10am until 11:15am in the Almond Room, St John’s Link. We would love to see you whenever you are able to join us.
Ma’mites is our vibrant and busy parent/carer and toddler group which runs on a Wednesday morning during term time. We meet in the Hall and Olive Room, St. John’s Link from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.
We are a friendly and relaxed group; parents/carers (new or existing) are welcome to join us at any time during the morning on a drop in basis. Refreshments are served at around 10:30 a.m.
We aim to provide a relaxed, friendly and safe environment for toddlers and babies to play and their parents/carers to meet. We have a large range of activities including painting and play doh, ride-ons and a play frame, books, puzzles and imaginative play. Please note that children remain in the care of their accompanying adult.
Our one day Fundays At Christmas and Easter focus on these key stories in the Christian year and try to explore them from new and different angles.
Global Gang is our summer club for school aged children from 4-11 (school Years R-6). It runs in the summer holidays, usually for 2 days.
We explore a variety of themes (including how we treat our planet, how we treat others, living the way God would like etc.) through music, craft, games and very often goo! It is always fun –filled, often gunge-filled and never quiet! All welcome.
St John’s has a policy of allowing children (aged 7 or older) to take communion before confirmation.
We offer special preparation sessions every two years for those children (and their parents) who feel that they would like to do this. Please talk to a member of the team for further details and dates of the next preparation course.
