Baptism

As a parent, baptism can be seen as a public thanking of God for this gift of life but it is so much more than this: it is the decision that you have taken to support your child on their journey of faith and the asking of the Church for its support.  For your child, baptism is the start of that journey in turning away from sin and accepting God’s offer of a new start. Many people are baptised as children, but there are also many who make this public commitment of faith as adults.

The promises made at a baptism service are very important and whether making these as parents or godparents on behalf of the child or for yourself in adult baptism, you’ll be supported as your prepare for these. At a later stage, the child may choose to be confirmed and make the promises themselves to turn away from sin and turn towards Christ.

For some parents, whilst they want to thank God for the gift of their child, they do not feel that the baptism service is for them and we are pleased to also offer a Thanksgiving Service for such families.
