Focus on
St. John’s Church is committed to giving 15% of its income to charitable causes. We support a wide variety of charities, but we Focus on Five in particular. Our supported charities for 2008 are:
Camberley Youth for Christ A charity that works with youth in schools and local Churches in the Camberley area. CYFC also supports us in some of the work of our Windle Valley Youth Project.
The Nicholas Fernando Foundation
The Nicholas Fernando Foundation was set up in 2000 in memory of late Nicholas Fernando who was mentally and physically disabled from birth. Nicholas had many challenges during his lifetime of 18 years, but he shared love and joy with his family and friends. He was treasured as a blessing and inspired his parents to be passionately involved in helping other disabled children lacking such a fortunate and nurturing family environment.
The Foundation supports the infrastructure and care of homes for children with mental and physical disabilities in Sri Lanka.
The Multiple Sclerosis Society
The MS Society is the UK's largest charity for people affected by Multiple Sclerosis - about 85,000 people in the UK.
From their website: “Helen & Douglas House provides professional care and practical support for children and young people with life-shortening conditions, as well as support for their families. The two hospice houses are bright, vibrant and positive places, focused on bringing some depth and enjoyment to life in often difficult circumstances.”
We like to give continuity of support over two or three years, and our Partnership Group reviews the Focus on Five charities annually. Regular updates are given in the magazine and in Church services throughout the year.
