The occasional services of Baptisms, Confirmations, Weddings and Funerals are an important part of the life of the Church. We welcome enquiries, but are normally obliged to restrict what we can offer to members of the Parish.
Baptisms
Baptisms are a privileged part of our ministry, available for both children and adults.
We offer baptisms at at our 10.45am Morning Praise Service, usually on the second Sunday of each month (though dates may vary during the summer)
We also like to invite parents of children being baptised to an informal meal at the Link.
To arrange a baptism, contact the Parish Office. It may help you to know that the busiest time of the year for baptisms is from May to October.
Confirmation
Confirmation is the adult profession of promises made on our behalf at baptism. It is open to all those in the Parish over the age of 14 on the date of confirmation. We normally run confirmation classes every one to two years, and join with other Churches in the deanery for confirmation services.
We also welcome people who are simply enquiring about confirmation, and they are welcome to join the classes.
For further details contact the Parish Office.
Weddings
We welcome inquiries concerning weddings at St. John’s, although we are normally obliged to offer weddings only for those living in the Parish. Each year we run Marriage Preparation Days for all couples getting married at St. John’s.
To book a wedding, or for further details, contact the Parish Office.
We are also able to provide:
Choir
Soloist
Flower arrangements
Funerals
Funerals are a confusing and painful time for the bereaved. Please feel free to contact the Rector (see Who’s Who) or the Parish Office if you need help or would like a visit. If you live outside the village, we will be able to put you in touch with the local minister.
The cemetery adjacent to St. John’s is run by the Surrey Heath Borough Council. It is used by other villages in the surrounding area, and the Church is available for use where appropriate. Ordinarily, it would be expected that, for a Church of England funeral, the local Parish priest would take the service, and the Parish Office will be able to advise. If in doubt, please feel free to contact us.
It is often best, either in the case of burial in the cemetry or cremation at a local crematorium, to make arrangements through a Funeral Director. The Parish Office will be able to assist in locating a Funeral Director if you need help.
