We are a thriving church with lots of activities for people to get involved with.

Details about groups for youth and children and older people are found in the Youth, Children and Families and Golden Years sections. For others - groups meet to sing, pray or worship God, or meet others to help with the upkeep of the church premises.

We welcome new members to get involved in any of our groups so if you are interested in finding out more you will find contact details for all of our groups in the Who's Who section.

Men at Pub

Calling all men over 18!

Men at Pub meet every Thursday evening at the Surrey Cricketers pub on Chertsey Road from 9.30pm. It's a great way to meet people in the village and catch up over a pint.

So as long as you're over 18, come along and join us - and you don't even have to be a churchgoer!

Fairtrade

We are a Fairtrade church. This means that we have committed to using as many Fairtrade products as possible and all  tea, coffee, sugar, drinking chocolate etc. used on the church premises must be fairly traded.

We also sell products from Traidcraft and Created - tea, coffee, chocolate and other food items as well as gifts and cards - which are produced under strict criteria to receive the fairtrade mark. The producers receive a fair price for the goods as well as a premium which can  be used to improve the conditions of the area the producers live in - such as providing facilities for schools, community centres, water supplies etc.

The profits from the sale of Fairtrade products at St John's goes directly towards the costs of paying for the education and upbringing of two children, through leading relieve and development charity, Tearfund. So buying Fairtrade goods from us helps these children and many local producers, which is a really great thing.

More details are available from the Parish Office.

Focus on Five

Each year St John’s Church gives a proportion of its income to five carefully selected Charities. We normally support each Charity for between 2 and 3 years.  The Charities are also regularly supported in prayer.  Information and regular updates come from its sponsor and these are passed on to the wider community in the Windlesham magazine, Church services and leaflets in St John’s Link.

These are the Focus on Five Charities for 2010:

The York Road ProjectThe York Road Project

The York Road Project runs a hostel for single homeless people in Woking and the surrounding area. As well as offering food, shelter, showers and laundry facilites, York Road gives people practical help ad advice for moving on.

Barnabas

BarnabasBarnabas is the Bible Reading Fellowship’s Children's Ministry. It provides a growing range of resources for church leaders and primary school teachers who work with children u p to the age of 11. Alongside it’s books and online resources it has a professional and experienced team to help in practical ways. Today, fewer and fewer children are growing up with any real knowledge or understanding of the bible or the Christian faith and, indeed, most have very little exposure to it.  Through their ministry in schools and churches Barnabas are trying to do something about this, bringing the Bible alive for children under 11 and enabling them, and the adults that work with them, to explore Christianity creatively.
